What is BIAB (Builder In A Bottle)?

BIAB stands for "Builder in a Bottle," You can use it on the natural nail bed to enhance the natural nails ability to grow or increase strength.  BIAB (Builder in a Bottle) / Builder gel is a form of nail enhancement which combines the benefits of gel polish and hard gel. It has a gel-like consistency but is thicker and stronger than normal gel polish and is generally used to strengthen the natural nail. Much like structure gel, BIAB™ increases the nails flexibility - meaning nails are much less likely to snap.

It is gentler and a  ‘healthier’ option than acrylic, but thicker than regular nail polish and gel polish. The protective shell it creates over nails is designed to encourage natural nail growth and strength.

BIAB will last around three to four weeks – then it can be either soaked off and re-done, or infilled. To fully restore damaged nails to perfect health, we'd recommend regular appointments for around 6 months, for the nail to fully re-grow.

The result is a sturdy, long-lasting nail enhancement that looks natural and is less prone to breakage.

What are the cons of BIAB?

What are the negatives of using BIAB/builder gel? BIAB and builder gel doesn't come in as many colours as other types of gel and polish. However, as already mentioned, you can opt for a clear builder gel and apply a different polish over the top. At Polish we have over 300+ different colors!

Treatment steps

1. Removal of BIAB or Gel Polish (if applicable): If you have existing gel polish on your nails or it’s been approximately 3 or 4 sessions since your last BIAB new set application, we initiate the removal process by delicately using an efile to gently file down the layers and let it soak in acetone for an effective and thorough removal. (15 minutes)

2. Filing down BIAB (If not a new set): If you come in for a fill up, using a precise efile, we carefully file down the BIAB layers, ensuring a controlled and even removal process.

3. Preparation of nails and cuticles (15 - 20 minutes): We meticulously push back cuticles, clean and trim them, cut and shape the nails, buff the surface for smoothless and conclude with an alcohol cleanse to eliminate dust and excess oils, ensuring an ideal surface for the BIAB application.

4. Application of Sunscreen and/or gloves:
Prior to the application of gel polish on your nails, we offer an additional service for our comfort. Would you like us to apply sunscreen to your hands or provide a pair of gloves to protect your skin during the process? Your well-being is important to us, and we’re here to ensure your experience is as enjoyable as possible.

5. Application of BIAB layers (20 - 25 minutes): We skillfully apply an initial thin layer of BIAB followed by a second layer that contributes to the structural build of the nail, with each layer meticulously cured under LED lights for approximately 2 minutes.
Refine and Reshape: After the BIAB layers are cured, we refine and reshape your nails to your desired length and shape, ensuring a polished and professional appearance.

6. Gel Polish on top (optional): If desired, we offer the option to apply gel polish on top of the BIAB. Each layer of gel polish is cured for 30-60 seconds.

7. Final Cure and Finish: We apply a layer of top coat to enhance the durability and shine of your treatment.

8. Cuticle oil application: We complete the treatment with a nourishing oil to promote healthy nails and cuticles.

*Please note that the duration of the treatment may vary for each customer, as it depends on the individual condition of the hands and nails. We take the necessary time to ensure meticulous removal, precise nail and cuticle preparation, and the flawless application of gel polish, tailored to the unique needs of each client.

BIAB treatment with Gel Polish
If your last appointment included BIAB with gel polish, remember to book a gel polish removal along with your BIAB fill-up appointment.

What is the difference between Gel Polish, Structure Gel, and BIAB?
Gel Polish: A traditional polish cured under UV or LED lights which offers a glossy finish but may be prone to chipping.
Structure gel: Adds strength and durability to natural nails while remaining flexible. It is ideal for those seeking added protection without extended length.
BIAB: A hybrid of gel and acrylic, providing strength to your nails and perfect if you are desiring both durability and natural-looking length.

Which factors affect the longevity of your nails?
Lifestyle: If your hands are frequently exposed to water or chemicals due to daily activities, it could affect the longevity of your nail treatments.

Tip from Top Stylist, Vy Trinh: To protect your nails, I recommend wearing gloves during such activities.

Nail Growth consideration: Faster nail growth may require more frequent infills to maintain the optimal look and durability of your nail treatments.

Temperature sensistivity: Be cautious in high temperature environments like saunas, as this may cause the product on your nails to lift. Furthermore, in very cold temperatures, your nails may crack

Tip from Top Stylist, Vy Trinh: To protect your nails from cracking, apply cuticle oil on your nails for extra protection and wear winter gloves when outside.

Maintenance: To ensure that your nails have longer-lasting results, we recommend regular infills and taking care of your nails after your treatment.

Top Stylist, Vy Trinh’s tip: Do not forget to use cuticle oil to maintain healthy nails and make your treatments last even longer.

What happens if on your first appointments your nails are super short?
If your nails are initially short, BIAB may not last as long. We recommend returning after 2 weeks for an infill appointment and our nail technicians will monitor your nail growth.

When should you choose the BIAB for longer nails
(> 1.5 cm)?

If your nails are longer than 1.5 cm, it's a good idea to add on this BIAB add on. We charge a bit more because we use extra materials, and it takes a little more time to make sure your nails look just right.
